Nils i Långserum
Ätten härstammar troligen från Nils i Långserum, Svenarums socken i norra Småland. Hans son Gjurd Nilsson (död efter 1312) är den förste som kan beläggas ha brukat ett vapen med en oxpanna med två därifrån utgående horn.

Oxenstierna, Swedish nobility trail, probably derived from a Nils in Långserum in Småland. The name, which came into use among the members of the family in the second half of the 16th century, originates from the genealogical weapon, which shows a bullet (Ty. Stirn, 'Panne', hence the 'paths'), and which is known for the first time by Nils' son Gjurd Nilsson (dead early 1312). His brother-in-law's son Nils Torstensson (dead at the earliest 1348) is the ancestor of the present family. He was grandfather's father to the brothers Nils Jönsson and Bengt Jönsson (dead early 1449), both of which were national advocates. The latter was the father of Archbishop Jöns Bengtsson (Died 1467) and the Council of State Cristier Bengtsson (Death 1473/76). The latter was grandfather's father to the rich Marian Gabriel Cristiernsson Oxenstierna (dead 1585), who became Sweden's first fighter in 1561.
